In addition to a variety of interactive activities and live music, the festival also features live glass blowing demonstrations by Daniel M. More than 100 artists from across the country will showcase their creativity during the 36th Annual Lakeshore Arts Festival. The festival is open 11 am to 6 pm each day in Evanston's Dawes Park and features live jazz and classical music, a silent art auction, and the popular Family Activity Area, including the Children's Craft Tent and ongoing family entertainment. The festival also hosts a dozen restaurateurs serving a variety of culinary delights. Free parking is available at the Northwestern University Garage (three blocks north of the festival site) and a free shuttle bus runs non-stop from the garage to the festival between 8 am and 7 pm. On August 7, you'll enjoy the sounds of Indigo featuring Toni Di Donato, which includes dance tunes, standards and pop songs from the 60s to today. On August 14, it's The Shirley King Band featuring high energy Blues, Soul and R & B (Shirley is the daughter of B.B. King!), and on August 21, come dance the night away with One Foot in the Grave, specializing in the classic rock of the 80s. With the precision of an Olympic ice skater and the grace of a prima ballerina, brightly colored kites will glide and pirouette through the skies over the West Meadow of the Chicago Botanic Garden. The event features members of the award-winning Chicago Fire Kite Team performing sport kite ballet and precision flying demonstrations. With the help of Kite Society members, kids assemble kites, and then run and launch them at the same time. The one who gets his or her kite the highest in 60 seconds wins a prize! Children can also make their own kites at a free kite-making workshop from 11 am to 2 pm both days (materials are provided). Professionals will be available to share their knowledge on what to look for when choosing beer or wine, and chefs will demonstrate creative ways to incorporate or pair the tasted beverages with food. Tickets are $10. Also this month, it's the All About Peppers Weekend (August 23 & 24). Visitors can learn all about growing and using peppers both hot and sweet from 11 am to 4 pm.
